SCHOOL SYSTEM: NO SUPPORT FOR FOOTBALL PLAYER ACCUSED OF RAPE

SPANISH FORT, Ala. (AP) – Baldwin County’s school superintendent says the system won’t tolerate student displays of support for a Spanish Fort High School football player who’s charged with raping a 16-year-old girl.

Superintendent Eddie Tyler says in a statement that officials will deal “appropriately” with anyone supporting violations of the law or school board policy. He also says the system won’t put up with bullying or intimidation.

The statement to media outlets came after students from Spanish Fort attended a game with a sign and other shows of support for Cameron Harrison, an 18-year-old football player charged with first-degree rape.

Prosecutors allege Harrison had sex with an underage female who passed out after drinking alcohol at a house party last month.

An attorney for Harrison didn’t immediately return a message seeking comment Thursday.
