SCAMMERS POSING AS LAW ENFORCEMENT IN TUSCALOOSA CO.

TUSCALOOSA – Sheriff’s deputies issued a warning about scammers posing as law enforcement in Tuscaloosa County and the surrounding area.

According to Sgt. Alex Miles with the Tuscaloosa County Sheriff’s Office, the scammers call a potential victim and pose as Deputy Eric Bailey or some other member of local law enforcement. The scammers tell the victim they will be arrested for failure to show up for jury duty or a missed court date unless a money card of some type is purchased and the numbers are given to the scammer.

Members of law enforcement do not ask for money in lieu of a warrant or arrest.

If you believe you’ve been contacted by someone running a scam call the Tuscaloosa County Sheriff’s Office at (205) 752-0616.
