SABAN VALUES ACADEMIC STANDARDS, COWAN OUT TWO PRACTICES

Sophomore linebacker VanDarius Cowan missed Alabama’s last two spring practices due to issues with academics.

Following the March 27 afternoon practice session, University of Alabama football head coach Nick Saban explained what he needs to see from his players when it comes to excelling in the classroom.

“We have rules about academics here,” Saban said. “We check guys in terms of what they are supposed to do and we define the standard of expectation we have.”

Saban did not provide specific information on Cowan’s situation or when he will return to practice, but he said he makes no exceptions for players who do not maintain a good academic performance.

“When guys do not [perform academically]to the standard we’ve created for all the players here, they can’t practice or play until they get it right,” Saban said.
