Road repaving projects begin in Northport

There’s a reasonable chance you will notice more road construction in Northport in the next few weeks. It’s part of a $4 million reconstruction project.

Northport city leaders have agreed to repave 22 roads. A few of those routes include 20th Avenue, Park Street to 32nd Street and Harper Road to Old Barn Lane.

Construction on the season-long project is expected to give motorists and pedestrians safer streets to travel without worrying about accidents or walking in dangerous areas.

Northport City Engineer Tera Tubbs said city crews have a repaving schedule.

“What we’ve done in the last two years is establish a repaving program where we reviewed and evaluated all of the roads we have in our city,” said Tubbs. “We’re ranking them in order of needing to be resurfaced.”

Tubbs also said city leaders hope to have repaving projects beginning every fall going forward.
