RIVERCHASE GALLERIA IS OPEN AGAIN, BUT MANY STORES REMAIN CLOSED

The state’s largest mall reopened Tuesday, but the Riverchase Galleria in Hoover wasn’t exactly hopping with activity.

Outside, the normally buzzing parking lot was subdued. Inside, shops like Arzel Men’s Wear was open for the first time in weeks. Owner Adam Fallah said it’s great being back at work.

“You know it’s been difficult, but I think that it was necessary,” Fallah said. “I understand why they did it but it’s good to be back open now.”

Some shops are open, but others are waiting a bit longer before they reopen. At midday Tuesday, shoppers were few and far between.

James Kahn, who operates Intrigue Jewelry, said he’s just glad he’s back and seeing shoppers again.

“Customers have been coming in, everybody’s been great,” he said. “Everybody’s excited to see the mall back open.”

While stores are opening, some mall amenities like the merry-go-round and food court remain closed.

Van Maur was the first department store to reopen. Belk announced it is reopening Friday at noon.
