Retired Teacher’s Birthday Wish? School Supplies

Sequence 030

By WVUA 23 News Reporter Karris Harmon

Instead of receiving gifts on her birthday, retired Tuscaloosa City Schools teacher Cynthia Walton wanted to give back to the community.

She celebrated her birthday Aug. 13 and asked members of the community to drop off school supplies for students instead of getting anything for herself.

Walton is a member of Backpack Connections in Tuscaloosa, which focuses on uplifting the community by donating supplies to students.

Walton said she’s glad to pay it forward.

“Oh I just think its wonderful. You know God has blessed me so and I just think its wonderful that I am trying to bless others and that my friends are so nice that I am trying to bless others so its just a blessing. I just thought it would be nice to pay it forward for my birthday and just ask people to drive by.”

Teachers will be handing out the supplies that members of the community donated.

This year Backpack Connections will also be making supply boxes for Tuscaloosa City Schools teachers.
