RETIRED CARPENTER CREATES CROSSES FOR LEE COUNTY TORNADO VICTIMS

Greg Zanis has devoted his life to honoring victims of tragedy. He is a retired carpenter that crafts crosses by hand in honor of the dead.

On Wednesday, he delivered 23 crosses honoring the 23 Lee County tornado victims.

The handmade crosses bear the names of those killed.

Zanis’ mission is to comfort those left behind, to let them know their loved ones are not forgotten

Zanis said he has made crosses for tens of thousands of victims of tragedy ever since the massacre at Columbine High School in 1999.

“I have always gone to church, but I realized all the houses and restaurants I’ve built, they don’t mean anything at all. When I retired 18 years later, I’ve been doing this full time. If I’m not repeating myself, last year I made 5,000– it was a record year,” Zanis said.
