RESIDENTS, WALT MADDOX RUN FOR 13TH YEAR AT MAYOR’S CUP 5K
All the weekend fun in Tuscaloosa started pretty early Saturday morning as around 1,200 people came out to Government Plaza for the Mayor’s Cup 5K for Pre-K.
In year 13, the Mayor’s Cup will have raised more than $300,000 for the Tuscaloosa Pre-K initiative. Some walked, some ran and even the fleet-footed mayor himself joined in on the fun as well.
“You know, over the years it’s changed,” Mayor Walt Maddox said. “At one time I always hoped to run under 22 minutes. I did 22.8, was the closest. Today I’m running with my son Eli, who’s 5 years old. So you know, over the last 13 years, my goals have changed like everyone’s goals have changed. But this community is growing, our lives are growing and we’re making a difference for our academically at-risk 4-year-olds by supporting the Tuscaloosa Pre-K initiative.”
