RESIDENT SEEKS FUNDING FOR RURAL FIRE PROTECTION

Tuscaloosa County residents that live in rural areas rely on volunteer fire departments in emergencies, but some residents are concerned about keeping those departments afloat.

Buddy Grey served as a firefighter years ago and he recently asked the Tuscaloosa County Commission to consider providing more funding for fire protection in the county. Grey hopes that the commission takes action, but he’s not sure how soon that will be.

“Well I don’t own a crystal ball, I’m a piano tuner,” Grey said. “But I would say this, it has to start somewhere. And, the county commission was very receptive to the issues I brought to them this morning, they have commissioned a committee to be formed and I think they’re starting to head in the right direction.”

Since Tuscaloosa County is such a large area, Grey believes it is important to have more fire stations spread throughout the county.
