SHEFFIELD, Ala. (AP) – A planned renovation and restoration of the legendary Muscle Shoals Sound Studio is scheduled to begin next month.

The Muscle Shoals Music Foundation, which owns the iconic studio, is expected to make the formal announcement Friday. The renovation is being paid for by a grant from Beats Electronics, a division of Apple.

According to the newspaper, the studio will close soon to allow for the renovations, which will start in September.

Beats Electronics announced in November 2013 that it would make the Sheffield studio a state-of-the-art recording center and training center for aspiring musicians, engineers and producers. Foundation Chairman Rodney Hood says his organization agreed not to reveal the amount of the grant.

The studio is expected to reopen early in 2016.
