REMEMBERING EVIE CAMPBELL: 16-YEAR-OLD KILLED IN WRECK
A community is in mourning after the sudden death of a 16-year-old girl over the weekend.
Evie Campbell, 16, was killed after the vehicle in which she was a passenger left the road and crashed into a tree Friday, March 29.
Her loss is devastating, said brother-in-law Preston Grammer.
“It’s been fun to watch her grow up over the years, to blossom into this beautiful, smart, funny girl,” Grammer said. “That’s always been a kind of a bright spot in our lives.”
Evie’s mother and father said they’re clinging to good memories among all the heartache.
“She was always happy, never in a bad mood,” Grammer said. “Always smiling and laughing and she always had this kind of almost goofy laugh that would make you laugh just by hearing it.”
Grammer said the family’s goal moving forward will be putting others first, because that’s what Evie would have wanted.
“She was a good friend, just very loyal and she would, she put others before herself,” Grammer said. “She wanted you to be happy over her being happy if that makes sense. And she’ll just be missed by all that knew her.”
Grammer, who’s worked in law enforcement for nearly a decade, said he has this message for anybody who drives.
“Drive the speed limit,” he said. “Wear your seat belt.”
Evie leaves behind a hole her family and friends said will never be filled, but they’ll ensure her memory lives on.
“There will always be pictures of her in our home, and nothing will ever change that,” Grammer said. “She’ll always be forever in our hearts and minds and if anybody ever asks ‘who’s that on the wall’ we’ll, you know, we’ll have a story to tell them.”
A GoFundMe page has been set up to assist the family with Evie’s funeral.
