REMEMBERING EMMA KATE JONES

Students at Hillcrest Middle School are mourning the loss of one of their classmates after she was tragically killed in a car accident over the weekend.
School officials and a family member confirm with WVUA 23 the deceased is eleven-year-old Emma Kate Jones.
Teachers made time for students to pay tribute to their friend, by decorating her locker and writing her letters.
As a sixth grader, Jones had only been attending Hillcrest Middle for one week, but made a big impact on everyone there.

Shane Jones, the father of Emma, is now charged with possession of a controlled substance.
According to Tuscaloosa Police, Jones was driving the vehicle that wrecked around 2:20 Saturday morning near Sokol Park, across from the Ol’ Colony Golf Complex, killing his daughter.
Jones was charged and arrested and is now out on bail.
The wreck is still under investigation.

A balloon release will be held in Emma’s memory Wednesday, August 26, 2015 at Hillcrest Middle School. Everyone is asked to wear her favorite colors, light blue and turquoise.
