REMEMBERING CATHERINE VIRGONA
A single vehicle wreck Saturday morning has left a 23-year-old woman dead.
Tuscaloosa Police Department responded to the fatal wreck around 1:00 AM on Interstate 359 southbound at Interstate 20 / 59.
The SUV struck a guard rail and 23-year-old Catherine Virgona, was identified as the deceased passenger.
The driver is a 22-year-old male who was transported to DCH for treatment.
A small memorial has been set up at the scene of the accident by the young woman’s loved ones.
Virgona was from Trussville but had lived in Tuscaloosa.
She was a part of the Shelton State Community College 2011 National Championship Cheerleading Team.
We spoke with Shelton State Cheerleading Coach Christa Sanford who says she will never forget Catherine.
The cause of the wreck is under investigation.
