Red Cross seeking donations after Fourth of July weekend
By WVUA 23 Digital Reporter Kyle Hamrick
The American Red Cross will be taking donations of blood and platelets the week after the Fourth of July in Northport and Tuscaloosa.
On Wednesday, July 6, the Red Cross will be at Northport City Hall (3500 McFarland Boulevard) from noon to 7 p.m.
In Tuscaloosa, donations will be accepted at University Mall (1701 McFarland Boulevard, East) from 11:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. on Monday, July 11.
Donations tend to decrease during the summer months and around holidays. According to a press release, the Red Cross sees a decline of as much as 21%.
“When blood donations drop, so does the blood supply, making it extremely challenging to ensure blood is available when hospitals need it,” the release stated.
Those who donate between June 30 and July 10 will receive an exclusive tote bag.
