Recovered from COVID? DCH, LifeSouth Want Your Plasma

Blood Drive

TUSCALOOSA, Ala- DCH Health System and LifeSouth are seeking plasma donations from people who have recovered from COVID-19.

In a Zoom call earlier this week with DCH Health System COO Paul Betz, he discussed the use of convalescent plasma.

Betz said the FDA is allowing hospitals to authorize the use of plasma for emergency cases.

This means hospitals will be allowed to administer plasma as a treatment for patients who are in critical condition with COVID-19.

Convalescent plasma is the part of a patient’s blood that contains antibodies. This is collected from those who have made a full recovery from COVID-19. If you have recovered from COVID-19 here is how you can help.

“What we would ask is go to LifeSouth and donate plasma and when you do that please tell them, of course, that you have recovered from COVID-19 and that you would like to designate your plasma to be used at DCH,” said Betz.

If you would like to donate your plasma, Life South asks that you make an appointment prior to your arrival. To schedule an appointment and to locate your nearest donation site please visit LifeSouth.org.
