Puppies running loose in Tuscaloosa County have many questioning the lax leash laws in the area.

The concern around this issue has recently heightened because of a social media post where you see several loose puppies in a yard very close to one of the area’s busiest highways.

This photo shows a mobile home at the intersection of Highway 43 and Charlie Shirley Road. Highway 43 is a city of Northport highway, but the property where the puppies roam is just over the line in Tuscaloosa County, where there is no leash law. Technically, no laws are being broken if the puppies stay in the county. However, Northport Police said they have their eyes on the situation.

“We are monitoring it,” Northport Police Assistant Chief Keith Carpenter said. “We are doing extra patrol of that area. If we see something that breaks our city ordinance, we will take action to enforce that,” Carpenter added.
