PUBLIX PARTNERS WITH UNITED WAY FOR BACK-TO-SCHOOL DRIVE

The United Way of West Alabama has paired up with Publix, helping students get what they need for the new school year.

The campaign starts July 23 and runs through Aug. 12, and customers and associates will be encouraged to donate money that will be used to purchase much-needed school supplies for local teachers, students and nonprofit organizations assisting underserved children.

More than 1,100 Publix stores are in on the event with displays near the front of the store. The display includes tear-off tickets valued at $5, $7 or $10. Customers tear off tickets and give them to cashiers when they check out, and the amount on the ticket is added to their order.

Customers who donate will be given a Publix resuable bag.
