POST OFFICE EVACUATED DUE TO SUSPICIOUS ODOR

MADISON, Ala. (AP) – Authorities say a north Alabama post office was evacuated after workers called to report a suspicious odor.

Local media report that workers called the fire department in Madison to report a chemical-like smell and thought it was a gas leak. The odor was traced to a package that was leaking an unknown substance.

The package was removed by a bomb squad unit. Local media reports the bomb squad determined it was a half-gallon of gear oil that had started to leak.

Authorities evacuated about 30 people from the building. No injuries were reported.
