Technology helps people connect with others all over the globe.

WVUA 23 spoke with law enforcement officials about how cell phone technology, in particular, has changed how they investigate crimes.

“It has been helpful in a lot of ways because everybody has a cell phone these days. even kids. it has helped families to locate their kids to know where they are. it has helped us to locate people,”  says Lt. Dortheen Richardson with Tuscaloosa Police Department.

In Sumter County, the Sheriff’s Department is using a new tool that lets you*fight crime. It’s called TIP  411. People can simply use their cell phone to text Sumter to the number
84-74-11 followed by their tip.
Chief Deputy Luther Davis says they’ve already received helpful tips through the new program.
Davis and Richardson agree technology will continue to aid law enforcement agencies in the future.
