POLICE SEARCHING FOR MORE WOMEN WHO WERE APPROACHED BY WHITE TOYOTA FJ CRUISER
Investigators say more women have come forward after the arrest of 29-year-old Joseph Christopher Spota Tuesday evening.
Spota turned himself in to police Tuesday after a woman came forward and said she’d been sexually assaulted after she was picked up along Magnolia Drive late at night by a man driving a white Toyota FJ Cruiser. The victim said the man claimed he was offering sober rides home through a church.
Police said several others contacted police and said they’d had similar incidents with someone trying to pick them up along the Strip in Tuscaloosa. In review of video evidence recovered so far, police said there appears to be another unidentified woman who was contacted by someone driving a white FJ Cruiser in the Caplewood Drive area around 1:50 a.m. on Aug. 30.
Yet another woman said she was contacted under similar circumstances in March.
Police ask that anyone who’s had contact with Spota or was approached under similar circumstances to contact the Tuscaloosa Police Department or Tuscaloosa Crime Stoppers at 205-752-7867.
