POLICE: MAN SAYS HE FIRED AT CAR FOR DRIVING TOO FAST
CENTER POINT, Ala. (AP) – Police say a Center Point man is under arrest after he fired shots at a car he said was driving too fast.
The Jefferson County sheriff’s chief deputy says a woman was driving along 20th Street Northeast on Tuesday evening when she passed a man walking. She heard two shots and then her passenger side window shattered. The woman’s 5-year-old daughter was injured by the glass. She was treated at the scene.
Darius Donnell Bennett fled but was later caught by a sheriff’s deputy in a nearby apartment complex. Police said the 21-year-old surrendered and admitted to firing at the car because it was driving too fast.
He is charged with two counts of attempted murder and unlawfully carrying a gun.
Bennett is being held at the Jefferson County jail without bond. It was not immediately known if he has a lawyer.
