Police investigating after pedestrian killed on Highway 69 South

UPDATE:

Tuscaloosa Police responded to the intersection of Kauloosa Avenue and Alabama Highway 69 South just before 5 a.m.

 The pedestrian was struck in the southbound lanes. The driver of the vehicle stopped a short distance from where the accident happened. A spokesperson for Tuscaloosa Police Department said the driver did return to the scene and is cooperating with police. The victim’s identity has not been released.

The “Fast and Easy Food Store” is just steps from where the crash happened. WVUA 23 stopped there later the morning after the incident.

<p>Employees like Tashay Robinson were still processing the tragedy right before the holidays.</p><p>“He was walking, and I saw the police and the lights,” Robinson said. “I looked outside and there was a body in the road. I didn’t know at the time that he was deceased. I can just only imagine getting that phone call in the morning early in the morning asking to identify the body of your child or your brother or your uncle.”</p><div data-ogsc=”rgb(0, 0, 0)”></div><p>Tuscaloosa Police Department’s Accident Reconstruction Unit is still investigating, and the victim has been identified as 43-year-old Michael David Moore.
<p>Alabama Law Enforcement Agency provided us with year-to-date numbers when it comes to pedestrian incidents on state roadways.</p><p>There have been 702 crashes involving pedestrians statewide so far in 2021.</p><p>108 of those people were killed because of these crashes, while 210 of them experienced serious injuries.</p></p>


Tuscaloosa Police are investigating after a pedestrian was struck and killed just before 5 a.m. on Alabama Highway 69 South.

Police said the driver continued driving, but stopped a short distance from the scene and returned to speak with a Tuscaloosa County Sheriff’s Office deputy. The incident is not being considered a hit and run, police said.

Officers are working to identify the person who was struck so they can notify the family, and TPD’s Accident Reconstruction Unit is conducting the investigation.

The driver is cooperating with investigators, police said.

Northbound traffic remains open, but southbound traffic is being rerouted this morning.
