POLICE CHIEF SAYS HE’S MADE RECOMMENDATION ON OFFICERS IN VIRAL ARREST VIDEO
Tuscaloosa Police Chief Steve Anderson says he’s made his recommendation regarding two police officers accused of abusing their power during an incident last month.
The officers, identified as Cole Ward and Steven Lackey, were videoed on April 19 using abusive language and threatening 22-year-old Jhasmynn Sheppard during her arrest. That video went viral on social media, and the Tuscaloosa Police Department released the body camera footage from the incident several days later.
Since then, both officers involved were put on desk duty pending the outcome of an investigation by the police department.
Anderson said he has given the department’s human resources and legal departments his personal recommendation regarding those officers’ futures, but has not divulged any other details.
Tuscaloosa City Attorney Glenda Webb said the department will not comment on personnel issues until the investigation is complete.
