PICKENS COUNTY HAS A NEW SHERIFF
There’s a new sheriff in town – or rather, in Pickens County.
Former Gordo Police Chief Todd Hall was sworn in on Wednesday and completed his first day in his new job on Thursday.
Hall applied and interviewed for the job when long time Pickens County Sheriff David Abston resigned amid a scandal last month. On Wednesday, Gov. Kay Ivey called and appointed Hall allowing him to start on Thursday morning. Hall said he plans to bring his experience in city policing to all of Pickens County, leaning on the message of serving and protecting.
“The first thing I think that the citizens need to know is that they have a sheriff who is concerned about service to the community and also keeping them protected because we live in an environment where bad things happen to good people all the time,” Hall said. “We want them to know that we are going to work hard to serve them and protect them.”
Hall said Sgt. Johnny Stevenson moved into the position of acting chief of Gordo when Hall was Sworn in as Pickens County Sheriff.
