Pet of the Week, Sept. 21, 2021: Meet Denver

Pet Of The Week

By WVUA 23 Digital Reporter Kyrsten Eller

This week’s Pet of the Week is 4-year-old Boxer/Labrador mix Denver, who’s available now for adoption at the Humane Society of West Alabama.

Weighing in at about 53 pounds, he’s a larger dog who’s in great shape and has a striking black, brindle coat with white on his chest.

He’s a very social, sweet, fun-loving, active dog who loves running, hiking, swimming, going to dog parks, cuddling and belly rubs. He is great around other animals and loves his toys. He is very well-behaved and was used as the behavior test dog with other dogs in the shelter.

Denver was adopted over two years ago, but was unfortunately returned. Although he was well loved and cared for, the owner had to move and was no longer able to take him to dog day care where he could get his energy out. Instead, he had to be left in a crate all day and he couldn’t tolerate it.

Then, HSWA adopted him out one more time, but to a family with four kids under the age of 10. The mother said that he was anxious and usually didn’t want to be around all the kids at once due to the noise.

However, the family told HSWA that he is a very good dog and is great on car rides and being on leash. They said he’s a great watchdog and will bark if anybody approaches the door. He also enjoys to run and play with other dogs.

They say he will do best having a yard to run around and play in during the day and can then be crated at night for sleeping.

Denver is also up to date on his vet care, neutered, heart-worm negative and is microchipped. He is on heart-worm and flea/tick prevention.

All HSWA dogs are either at the Dog Adoption Facility or in foster homes. All dogs require an appointment to meet. If interested in making an appointment, please call at 205-554-0011 or email humaneswa@yahoo.com.

The adoption fee is $75 and you can read more information on the adoption process here.

Then, if you feel your home might be the right forever home and you are interested in adopting, submit an online adoption application here.
