The Tuscaloosa County Park and Recreation Authority received several awards at the Alabama Recreation and Parks Association Conference in Mobile on Jan. 26 through Jan. 28.

Dr. J. Barry Mason, the President of the PARA Foundation, received the Community Service Award for his recent work bringing awareness to Tuscaloosa’s all-Inclusive playground that will be built in Sokol Park.

The Innovative Special Event 15,000 and Above Award was bestowed on PARA for Tuscaloosa Oktoberfest, an event held last fall that raised money for the all-inclusive playground.

The Professional of the Year in Recreation Award was presented to Becky Booker, the organization’s public relations specialist and marketing manager, for “outstanding leadership and innovation in the area of recreation, athletics, leisure or special event programming.”

Along with the awards, PARA Executive Director Gary Minor was named president of the ARPA Board of Directors and will lead seven local districts throughout the year.
