The Tuscaloosa County Park and Recreation Authority brought home some major awards during the Alabama Recreation and Parks Association annual conference in Huntsville this week.

PARA Community Outreach Director Jay Logan earned the 2021 Professional of the Year in Recreation award, and the Jerry Tingle Activity Center was recognized as 2021 Facility of the Year. Logan and PARA Executive Director Gary Minor were also presented with a Spotlight Award for their contributions to the conference.

“It is a great privilege for the Alabama Recreation and Parks Association to recognize exceptional service from our parks and recreation professionals across the state,” said ARPA Executive Director Natalie Norman. “The Tuscaloosa County Park and Recreation Authority provides excellence in service to their community through staff, facilities, and programs and their earnest desire to make a positive difference.”

Minor said it’s the third year in a row that a PARA staff member has earned the Professional of the Year in Recreation award.

“This speaks to the leadership, dedication and hard work our staff are recognized for on a statewide level,” Minor said in a statement.

Mark Harrison won the award in 2020 and Becky Booker won in 2019.
