OPELIKA POLICE ARREST 12 IN HUMAN TRAFFICKING INVESTIGATION

OPELIKA, Ala. (AP) – The Opelika Police Department has announced multiple arrests made in a prostitution and sex trafficking bust.

Opelika Police tell say the arrests occurred as the result of an investigation launched in June 2015.

Police say officers responded June 23, 2015 to a criminal trespass complaint at a motel. A 16-year-old girl at the scene was lying about her identity. Officers determined the girl was from Lee County and was at the hotel because she had been coerced into prostitution. Police also found a 17-year-old girl and a 14-year-old girl who were being used for prostitution.

These discoveries spurred an investigation that lead to the April 27 arrest of 25-year-old Aleisha Bufford. She is being charged with two felony counts of human trafficking.

Altogether, 12 people were arrested as part of the operation.
