Boat Accident

Story by WVUA 23’s Jordan Johnson.

A fishing competition on Lake Tuscaloosa ended Saturday morning when two boats collided causing one person to be injured. One boat rear ended the other, running up its stern and pinning one victim to the boat.

Tuscaloosa Fire and Rescue was dispatched at 11:50 a.m. to assist Carol Creek Volunteer Fire Department.

The crash occurred outside of a home along Country Club Drive in Northport. Luckily, a resident of the house is a medical provider and was able to attend to the injured victim until the ambulance arrived.

The only thing that Fire and Rescue could tell us about the injured man was that his back was injured and he is getting medical care from a local hospital.

Sadly, this is not the first time a crash like this has occurred right around the same area.

“We had, approximately four years ago or four and a half years ago, another boating accident late one night,” said Randy Smith, Fire Chief of Tuscaloosa Fire and Rescue. “Some time between ten and midnight that we did have a fatality right in this area, similar to this.”

Chief Smith also said that the Tuscaloosa Police Department Marine Division is conducting an investigation.
