BOTH VICTIMS IN MONDAY HIGHWAY 69 SOUTH CRASH IDENTIFIED

UPDATE July 1: The driver of the GMC Envoy has been identified as Maria Lucia Cortes Ixtla, 39, of Moundville.

Ixtla’s passenger, Ascencion Marcelo Roque Jimenez, 36, of Moundville, was also killed in the crash.

Ixtla and Jimenez were huband and wife, and they leave behind two daughters.

Alabama State Troopers have identified one of two men killed Monday evening at the intersection of Highway 69 South and Upper Hull Road near Moundville.

The crash happened with a GMC Envoy collided with a Dodge Charger driven by Derrick Maurice Lucy, 38, of Huntsville. Lucy and his passenger, who was not identified, were both injured and taken to DCH Regional Medical Center in Tuscaloosa. Both are now recovering in Huntsville.

The Envoy caught fire, killing the driver and passenger, who has been identified as Ascencion Marcelo Roque Jimenez, 36, of Moundville.

Passerby Korina Donner witnessed the crash.

“I drove right by it and I just started crying a little bit,” she said. “It’s so sad. I heard this bang, and I looked out and happened to see the end of the crash. Next thing I knew, there was something on fire.”

The Envoy’s driver has not been identified.
