BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (AP) – An officer who was shot while working security at a church has been released from the hospital.

News outlets report the president of Birmingham’s Fraternal Order of Police says narcotics detective John Finke went home Sunday.

He had multiple surgeries while he was in the hospital. He is expected to continue physical therapy on an outpatient basis.

The officer’s release comes one week after the officer responded to a robbery call.

He was shot three times in a shootout with the suspects. Police made two arrests after tracking cell phones stolen in the robbery.
