OFFICER INVOLVED SHOOTING IN GREENE COUNTY
Two people involved in the attempted murder of a Greene County Sheriff’s deputy are now in police custody.
Shirley Hawkins and Eric Washington were captured in Woodstock at a service station along Highway 5.
Washington faces attempted murder charges after shooting at Greene County Sheriff’s Deputy Tommy Johnson at a residence on County Road 80 in Boligee.
Johnson’s Sheriff’s Department SUV was struck numerous times when Washington discharged his weapon.
Alabama Law Enforcement Agency spokesman Reginal King says Johnson was not hit by a bullet, but glass fragments from the vehicles cut his face and were embedded in his eyes.
An off duty police officer alerted authorities after he saw Washington and Hawkins.
