Northside Wins Back-and-Forth Battle Against Winfield

Northside’s Braden Green scored go-ahead touchdown on a quarterback-keeper midway through the 4th quarter, as the Rams win their home-opener 21-14 over Winfield.

Northside improves to 2-0 on the season, while Winfield falls to 1-1.

The two schools traded touchdowns throughout the game. Northside struck first. The Rams Joshua Trimble intercepted a Winfield pass on the second play of the game. Following the turnover, Northside running back Jace McNutt scored a touchdown on a 7-yard run.

On Northside’s next possession, Winfield’s defense forced a punt. The Pirates Will Beasley blocked the kick and returned it for a Winfield touchdown.

Northside’s McNutt scored his second touchdown with less than a minute remaining in the first half, and the Rams took a 14-7 lead to the locker room at halftime.

Winfield tied the game early in the 4th quarter, but Northside’s quarterback made the play late to secure the win.

Next week, Northside plays Haleyville in it’s Region-opener in Class 4A, Region 5.

Next week, Winfield travels to Tarrant for it’s Region-opener in Class 3A, Region 6.
