Northport responds to flooded mobile home park

It’s been more than a week since Tropical Storm Claudette caused significant damage to Northport, displacing residents of Willowbrook Trailer Park.
However, the city recently announced that, depending on individual circumstances, some residents may begin moving back into their homes.
“We cleared the way for residents to begin moving back in last week on Friday, and we will continue to work with the tenants as well as the property owner as to which structures can be safely inhabited and when structures will need to be vacated or relocated in the future,” said Glenda Webb, Northport’s city administrator.
The homes must also meet certain safety qualifications before people are able to occupy them again, she added.
“Each structure will have a separate assessment because there are floodways and flood fringe areas within the area as well as two different zoning classifications,” Webb said. “Those, along with the various issues that were caused by the flooding, will determine what each structure will have to do.”
