Northport Police investigating early Saturday fatal wreck

One person is dead and another is seriously injured after an early morning wreck Saturday in Northport.

Northport Police said the wreck happened just after midnight near the 41-mile marker of McFarland Boulevard.

A 2013 Kia Soul driven by a man who has not yet been identified crashed head-on with a sedan driven by 22-year-old Devonta Maddrey of Gordo. Both men were taken to the hospital, where the unidentified man was pronounced dead. Maddrey was seriously injured but is in stable condition.

An investigation indicated the 2013 Kia Soul was traveling east in the westbound lanes of McFarland Boulevard when it crashed into the sedan traveling west in the westbound lanes.

The Northport Police Department Traffic Reconstruction Unit is investigating the cause of the crash.
