TUSCALOOSA, Ala- The Northport Police Department is launching a new program called Teens and Traffic Stops.

The program is directed toward teen drivers and its goal is keeping drivers and police officers safe.

The program will do this by better educating young drivers about what to expect if they get pulled over by a police officer.

This program will cover what kind of questions they may be asked, and what documentation the teen will need to provide.

“We are going to role play, they are going to get to be the driver and they are going to get to be the officer so they can experience that traffic stop from both points of view,” said Community Resource Officer Haley Abbett. “We are excited to host it and to interact with our teens in our community.”

The first class is full but the department plans to host another class in November.

More information can be found on the Northport Police Department’s Facebook page. To register email Haley Abbett at habbett@cityofnorthport.org for a registration form.
