After another fatal crash at the intersection of Highway 82 and Sam Sutton Road, the left, west-bound lane of Highway 82 near the crash sight was scheduled to be closed beginning October 27, 2015.

However, weather conditions pushed some repairs back until the next week. The bridge rail was damaged in the crash on October 22, 2015. The crossover at the intersection has been blocked off since.
The Alabama Department of Transportation is waiting on the crash report to give the official cause of the crash.
Northport Mayor Bobby Herndon tells WVUA 23 he, along with the mayor of Coker and Northport Police have reached out to the state asking them to close the intersection completely.

ALDOT will assess the area to see if there is anything they can do to improve the crossover, or the intersection from an engineering standpoint.

Mayor Herndon says there have been at least six fatalities at that intersection in last eight years.
Once the work begins, delays are expected and travelers should consider an alternate route.
