The West Alabama Regional Commission (WARC) hosted their Annual Meeting and Awards Ceremony Thursday, Nov. 21 at Tuscaloosa River Market highlighted by guest speaker, Rep. Bill Poole of District 63.

The 2019 David M. Cochrane Award was presented to Donna Aaron, Mayor of Northport by former recipient and Mayor of Tuscaloosa, Walt Maddox.

Mayor Aaron was recognized for her outstanding leadership, innovation in local government and promotion of regionalism through intergovernmental cooperation as an elected official.

She was up against city council members, county commissioners, and other mayors across Bibb, Fayette, Greene, Hale, Lamar, Pickens, and Tuscaloosa counties for the 2019 award.

Aaron is currently serving her first term as mayor and is a member of the West Alabama Mayors’ Association.

She was elected in 2016 and served two terms on the Northport City Council, five of them as City Council President.

The David M. Cochrane Award is presented in honor of the WARC’s first chairman and has been awarded annually since 1975 to local, policy-making elected officials across West Alabama.
