A man from Northport is facing assault charges after another man was stabbed Tuesday night.

Northport Police responded to the site of the stabbing around 10:40 p.m. after a 911 call. Once there, witnesses said a man had been stabbed by his neighbor during an argument. The victim’s injury was not life threatening, but did require medical treatment.

The suspect, Walter Turner III, refused to come out of his home, and NPD’s Special Response Team was activated. Turner surrendered to police after barricading himself inside his home for more than an hour.

Tuscaloosa Violent Crimes Unit investigators took over the scene and interviewed the victim, witnesses and suspect and recovered evidence from the scene.

Turner was charged with one count of second-degree assault and was taken to the Tuscaloosa County Jail on a $15,000 bond.
