Northport has sent Alabama Gov. Kay Ivey a trio of names she can choose from to fill the vacant District 3 City Council seat.
Ivey is being called in as the decision-maker after the Northport City Council could not agree on a choice themselves.
The District 3 seat was until Dec. 31 occupied by John Hinton, who took over the mayoral seat Jan. 1 after the resignation of former Mayor Bobby Herndon.
According to Alabama law, Northport had 60 days to appoint someone to the seat before Ivey was required to step in. Ivey has 30 days to make the decision.
Out of the seven candidates who applied for the position, Northport is asking Ivey to pick between three finalists.
They are:
- Jason Barksdale
- Kevin Pate
- Karl Wiggins
