NORTHPORT COUNCILWOMAN WANTS TO GIVE DECREASE IN WATER RATES

8 years ago, when the Northport City Council took office, Mayor Bobby Herndon says the City was in it’s worst financial shape.

Herndon says the city raised the water rates to put Northport on top.

District 1 Northport City Councilwoman Judy Hayes says after the city was presented with an audit, it showed 2015 was the first year, the City of Northport made a profit off water rates.

It also showed the water and sewer fund had an overage.

Councilwoman Hayes wants to give back to residents.

“I feel if the city is going to experience this increase, then the customers should receive a decrease, we’re in the business of providing services” says Hayes.
But, no council members agreed.
