Northport Baptist hosts Purchase with a Purpose

A local nonprofit is making sure West Alabamians can get their Christmas lists checked off and support a great cause at the same time.
The 34 vendors at the event were offering up a portion of their proceeds to good causes of their choosing.
“We have a wide representation of local nonprofits featured,” said event organizer Jennifer Ballard. “We have global missions, fair trade artisans, we have adoptive families who are fundraising, so it’s a wide range of services but basically you get to knock out your Christmas shopping and know that every dollar you’re spending is helping others at the same time.”
Small business owner Margaret Julian was selling candles at the event and donating a portion of her proceeds to local foster care efforts. Julian said the event is always a highlight of her year.
“This is probably my biggest event every year and it really keeps my business going and allows me to give more back to those organizations, so it makes a huge impact,” said Julian.
Ballard said she hopes people leave the event knowing that by spending money, they are impacting people not only in the local area, but around the world.
“How we shop matters and how we shop can make a huge impact for others that we may never meet. I think it’s a great way to celebrate Christmas,” said Ballard. “When you get to give a gift that’s really giving twice, you’re giving it to the person that’s receiving it but you’re also giving back to the person who made it. It’s a win-win and it’s something to feel good about this time of year.”
