TUSCALOOSA–Months after the Tuscaloosa City Council debated allowing its operation, Spades Restaurant and Lounge in West Tuscaloosa is open and celebrating its grand opening.
After getting its operations approved as a bar at the Tuscaloosa City Council meeting Dec. 7, Spades hosted its grand opening Dec. 10.
Spades is located in the former Good Times Club building, located in the 1700 block of Culver Road next to Hay Court Apartments.
The city of Tuscaloosa revoked Good Times’ business license because of residential complaints, and District 1 Council Member Matthew Wilson voted against allowing Spades at the location back in October.
But the bar license was approved by a unanimous vote last week, and Spades owners said they’re thankful for the support from the city and community.
“(We want to) provide a safe place for adults,” said Spades owner TK Perry. “Shoutout to all the city council members and the city of Tuscaloosa for getting behind us.”
Spades is open 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. daily, and 5 p.m. to midnight Sunday through Thursday and 5 p.m. to 2 a.m. Friday and Saturday.
