TUSCALOOSA, AL- First Kids Urgent Care, which is part of the Crimson Care Network, is now open and accepting patients.

The office offers medical care for children’s urgent situations including flu or COVID-19 tests, potential sprains or breaks requiring X-rays, cuts, scrapes and other non-emergency issues.

It’s housed in the same building as First Care Urgent Care and Family Medicine, located at 1251 McFarland Blvd. NE, and operates from noon to 8 p.m. Monday through Friday and 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturdays and Sundays.

Crimson Care Network Chief Operations Officer Sam Whitmer said they want the facility safe and comfortable for patients and their families, so it’s filled with children’s books, coloring pages and games.

“It’s scary for a kid for a swab to come at you and be swabbing and not knowing what’s happening, so we’re trying to incorporate mom and dad to make sure it is as nice as possible for the kid and letting them do it in an environment that they’re comfortable in,” said Whitmer.

COVID tests can be done at the facility’s drive-thru, Whitmer said, or patients can wait for their services in their vehicle.

Whitmer said walk-ins are welcome, but appointments are available for scheduling online.
