TUSCALOOSA SAFE CENTER OFFERS VICTIMS A PLACE THEY CAN BE HEARD
Tuscaloosa, AL (WVUA)- The Tuscaloosa Safe Center is a brand new, community-based initiative helping provide a compassionate environment for victims needing sexual assault forensic examinations.
“We will have state-of-the-art equipment we can use for forensic examinations,” said TSC Executive Director Pam Jones. “It’s going to help a survivor be able to seek justice.”
Sexual assault victims often have to wait hours just to be seen in a hospital emergency room, while the TSC is designed to cater to victims’ needs right away, Jones said.
“So you come to the safe center and we have a private entrance,” Jones said. “You come in, we have immediate attention given to you.”
The center’s primary mission is getting sexual assault victims a forensic examination as early as possible. That feat allows for the collection of accurate and reliable data in case those victims decide to pursue justice.
Jones said the facility is staffed by nurses who are specially trained in handling sexual assault cases.
