In its inaugural season, the T-Town Speed summer track program sent 33 athletes to compete in the USATF National Junior Olympic Championships in Sacramento, California.

T-Town Speed was founded this year by Kirby Walker, who coaches track at the University of West Alabama. Her daughter expressed interest in running track in Tuscaloosa during the summer, but no program existed to meet that need.

“The upcoming meet is the best athletes in the country from all over the United States,” said Walker.

“It’s an amazing experience, the kids are able to get a lot of exposure from it.”

The non-profit organization has had 64 participants ranging in age from 8 to 18.

She said registration for next summer’s TTown Speed program will open in the spring semester around January.

If you would like to help donate to the program you still have time and can donate to their GoFundMe here.
