With the University of Alabama’s first home football game more than a week away, event organizers are finalizing their plans for game day on campus.

A big new addition to the game-day experience is a family-friendly tailgate area found on the old Bryce property north of campus. A strictly enforced alcohol-free zone will offer participants a spot to set up tents and enjoy pre- and post-game festivities with families in mind.

UA Event Management Associate Director Nick Frenz said the new area may also help with traffic movement.

“The Peter Bryce campus is brand new,” he said. “We’ve got some new infrastructure on campus that we’re going to utilize for traffic before and after the game. It’s going to take some traffic off the heavily congested east side of campus. It will speed things up a little bit for us.”

Alabama’s first home game is 2:30 p.m. Sept. 10. They play against Western Kentucky.
