BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (AP) – A new bishop has been named for the Diocese of Birmingham, Alabama.

News outlets report the new position for Bishop Steven J. Raica was officially announced Wednesday.

The 67-year-old was previously the bishop of the Diocese of Gaylord, Michigan.

He takes over for 75-year-old Bishop Robert J. Baker, who retired last year.

Baker had served Birmingham since 2007. The Mass of Installation for Raica has been scheduled for June 23.
