Neighborhood Market

A brand new 41,000 square foot, $10 million Walmart Neighborhood Market is set to open on Highway 82 in Northport Wednesday.

The grocery store also features a pharmacy and fuel pumps, and will be located at the former K-Mart store next to Chick-fil-A near the U.S. Highway 82 and Lurleen B. Wallace Boulevard intersection. About 100 employees were hired on for the store’s opening.

Traffic flow, too, got a huge overhaul, and drivers entering or exiting the shopping center will have an easier time figuring out where they should go.

Northport City Councilman Rodney Sullivan said it will definitely help all the drivers coming in and out of Chick-fil-A.

“I think the changes going to help significantly and I think overall the exit from Chick-Fil-A is certainly going to be beneficial,” he said.

Northport Chick-fil-A owner Ashley Gill said she believes her restaurant will benefit from the new shopping center.

“People can park down here and walk up,” she said. “Or if you’re shopping you can do both. You can eat, walk down here and shop, so it’s working out really well.”

Neighborhood Market’s grand opening is Wednesday at 7:30 a.m., and the store will be open 24 hours a day.
