MUNICIPAL, STATE LEADERS TALK SOLUTIONS IN TUSCALOOSA

Legislative Concerns

West Alabama municipal leaders shared a meal with state legislators to share their policy goals for the upcoming legislative session.

The Alabama League of Municipalities hosted the event as one of eight regional dinners it holds throughout Alabama.

“We need a collaborative effort to address some of the sustainable problems we have in our state,” said Greg Cochran, the deputy director of the Alabama League of Municipalities. “By having these dinners it gives legislators, which are state policy makers, an opportunity to visit with local policy makers to come with good solutions.”

Tuscaloosa Mayor Walt Maddox said some of the problems he would like to see addressed centered on issues with digital and online sales as well as updating and adapting to 5G cell technology.

“I think it’s important that when you look at where people live and you look at the population of our state, it’s in cities,” said Maddox. “Cities are where innovation takes place, where the quality of life, where the real services take place, so it’s important that our voices are heard as decisions are made in Montgomery.”

The 2020 legislative session begins Feb. 4 in Montgomery.
